SNP COMMON WEAL GROUP CALLS ON SNP TO REJECT GREEN PORTS

The SNP Common Weal Group (CWG) has called on SNP leadership to reject the Green Port model and to work with SNP members to develop a Recovery model which puts Scotland's people first. CWG Convener Craig Berry said: "The Scottish Government should be setting up the policy framework we expect to see for a future, independent Scotland. Lower taxes, deregulation and reduced labour protection is not the future grassroots members of the SNP expect to see. "The UK Trade Policy Observatory has previously warned that not only are there "almost non-existent" benefits to business, but freeports could divert economic activity from elsewhere in the economy. We cannot allow the same conventional thinking which has contributed to the regional imbalances across the UK to be replicated in Scotland. "The CWG therefore calls on the SNP leadership to reject the Green Port model and encourages them to engage with the wider party membership to develop a post-COVID recovery model, focussed on improving the material conditions of local communities and local businesses, sustaining a fair and progressive tax system, and puts Scotland's people first."
