Replicate the success of publicly-owned Lothian Buses to ensure bus links are affordable, frequent and widespread across Scotland’s urban and rural communities

A centre of excellence to design and manage public infrastructure projects financed by the National Investment Bank to end Public-Private Partnerships and private profiteering off of public needs

LAND
LAND VALUE TAX
Bringing unproductive land into community control, a local land value tax can ensure land is used to benefit local communities. This can break up the hoarding of land in Scotland and ensure the wealthiest in society pay their fair share

FOOD
RIGHT TO AFFORDABLE FOOD
Enshrine the right to food into Scots law so public agencies, such as local authorities, are required to take action if people do not have sufficient food of an acceptable quality

SUPPORT DOMESTIC PRODUCERS
Form a framework to support local producers and local employment through shortened supply chains in place of imports
​
HOUSING
RENT CONTROLS
Implement a points-based rent control system on both private and social lets to end run away rents and landlords’ exploitation of tenants, and redistribute wealth to the least financially secure
​
DEMOCRATISE HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS
End the undemocratic bureaucracy of larger Housing Associations and put tenants in control of their communities by legislating for a tenants majority on executive boards supported by tenants’ unions
​
STRENGTHEN TENANTS' RIGHTS
End Covid-era and Winter evictions; increase accountability and penalties for non-compliant landlords who don’t adhere to the law and ensure their properties are maintained and habitable; and promote membership of tenants’ unions

TRANSFORM SCOTTISH HOUSES
Accelerate the green transformation of housing across Scotland and enable the sector to meet the Scottish Government’s climate change targets through a nationwide retrofitting programme

Public ownership of energy infrastructure and sources, and the provision of affordable and environmentally friendly energy to Scotland’s homes and businesses

To build up local communities we need to maintain more local wealth in local economies, creating a virtuous reinvestment cycle which will progressively strengthen those economies and shorten supply chains

Transition to a more decentralised local tax system where local authorities are empowered to better serve their local communities and end the Tories’ unfair Council Tax

LOCAL COMMUNITY BANK
Establish a public banking option providing all the banking services a private retail bank would offer where profits will be reinvested back into communities instead of being extracted by shareholders

PUBLIC WORKFORCE EQUALITY
Hold public bodies accountable for advancing equality of opportunities in public sector workforces to make them proportionate and representative of BAME, disabled and women workers based on local populations by 2030
